Recession Survival

Most of us have been affected one way or the other by the current Recession.

here are a few things that may help out.

Angel Food

the First Baptist Church is hosting the Angel Food Ministries, which I have found to be a big benefit.

Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States. The program began in 1994 with 34 families in Monroe, Georgia (between Atlanta and Athens), and has grown to serve hundreds of thousands of families every month across 35 states. Angel Food Ministries crosses denominational lines and has spread the good news of the gospel of Christ through salvation tracts that are placed in each food order.
Blessings by the box

Angel Food is available in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box at $30 per unit. Each month’s menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $60. Comparison shopping has been done across the country in various communities using a wide range of retail grocery stores and has resulted in the same food items costing from between $42 and $78.

Home appliance repairs

It never fails. you get laid off,  and that is when the dishwasher quits working, and the Heating element in the dryer goes out. Now you are looking at repair bills on top of being behind in everything else. Well, you could repair it yourself if you are reasonably good with a few tools. Appliance Parts Pros can help.

I have been able to find the bad parts for all my appliances, and repair them myself. This sight has saved me a lot in repair costs. bookmark it!

Pine Hill

Located at 1800 5th Rd. in Bremen, (go south on 331 to 5th road, then turn east, and it’s about 1 & 1/4  miles down the road).

this is a discount store that sells stuff the grocery stores won’t. Damaged packaging, past expiration date, etc.  A lot of the things you get there are perfectly fine. you do need to pay attention, and not get the stuff that is too badly damaged, or too far out of date, but if you pay attention here, you can save a lot of money. There are Several stores around the area that are like this. Since they are Amish owned, they are not advertised very well. here is an article from the Elkhart Truth highlighting a couple in the area. – complete with a map to them.

I will continue to look for other helpful info to post here, since I am all about saving money.

Randy.
