Mint City

Bremen is Located in north central Indiana, we are 30 minutes from Notre Dame University. A Small town, and a quiet town, Bremen has seen quite a bit of population growth in recent times, since we are only 25 minutes from Mishawaka and south bend. in South bend, you will find such attractions as the College football hall of Fame, the South Bend Chocolate Company, and the Morris Performing Arts Center. also close is Amish Acres in Nappanee Indiana.

Bremen Got the title of Mint City because  of the Leman mint refinery  in town. The refinery  was located in the down town area, and the town smelled of mint almost constantly. They also produced there own line of gourmet mint candies, in the shape of footballs, which added to the mint city nickname the town has. the football mints were a big hit among the town folk, and many visitors to our little town. the distribution never was huge, but wildly popular in this area.   The refinery  has since shutdown, however the candy lives on. you can buy it here in town at many of the stores, or on-line  in bulk here.

Bremen’s most famous resident is Otis R. “Doc” Bowen, MD, who became governor of Indiana and later Secretary of Health and Human Services under Ronald Reagan.

If you have a Bremen Indiana web site, and would like to have a link here,  or if you have any additional information for the town that you would like to see on the web, leave me a note and I will be happy to add it.
